Their Story:
 
The Lovers of Teruel is a tragic love story from 13th-century Spain. It tells the tale of Diego de Marcilla and Isabel de Segura, two young lovers from the town of Teruel.
 
Diego and Isabel loved each other deeply, but Isabel's father refused to let them marry because Diego was not wealthy. Diego asked for five years to make his fortune, and Isabel agreed to wait.
 
After five years, Diego returned to Teruel, rich and ready to marry Isabel. But he arrived too late, her father had already forced her to marry another man.
 
Heartbroken, Diego visited Isabel and begged for a kiss before he died of sorrow. She refused because she was now married. Diego died at her feet.
 
At Diego’s funeral, Isabel kissed him goodbye and she too fell dead beside him. They were buried together, and their story became a symbol of eternal love.
